Crescent City Crossing: Safe Routes to School

The Crescent City Crossing initiative, led by the NOHD Injury Prevention team in partnership with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), works to keep students safe on their way to and from school. Every child deserves a safe route to school, supported by trained and properly equipped crossing guards.

Free Crossing Guard Training from NOPD

To strengthen safety efforts, the New Orleans Police Department now offers FREE Crossing Guard Training for schools and community partners. This training covers:

  • Proper crossing guard techniques
  • Traffic safety protocols

Why Training Matters

Crossing guards play a critical role in preventing injuries and ensuring safe passage for students. Training ensures consistency, confidence and compliance with city safety standards.
