VOLUNTEERS AND PARTNERS ASSIST THE CITY’S DEPARTMENT OF SANITATION WITH ITS 8TH ANNUAL HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS MATERIALS COLLECTION DAY

NEW ORLEANS -- This month, dozens of volunteers and partners assisted in the collection and recycling of tons of materials from approximately 871 vehicles as part of the Department of Sanitation’s 8th Annual Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day.

ADVISORY: TRAFFIC CLOSURE AT 500 BLOCK OF BARONNE STREET

NEW ORLEANS — On Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the 500 block of Baronne Street will be closed due to film crew activity. This will affect the area between Poydras Street and Lafayette Street. Law enforcement officers will be on-site to ensure public safety and to help facilitate the work and traffic flow.

CITY TO BEGIN REPAVING PROJECT IN UPTOWN, FONTAINEBLEAU NEIGHBORHOOD

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works’ construction contractors, Barriere Construction, LLC and Pavement Markings will mobilize crews to the Fontainebleau neighborhood on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, for an approximately 60-day, $400,000 repaving project between Nashville Avenue and South Broad Avenue.

ADVISORY: Traffic Shift on Fleur de Lis Drive between 30th Street and Old Hammond Highway

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans construction contractor, Command Construction Industries, LLC, has shifted all northbound traffic to the newly constructed northbound lane of Fleur de Lis Drive from 30th Street to Old Hammond Highway. All traditionally southbound traffic on Fleur de Lis Drive between 30th Street to Old Hammond Highway has been detoured to Pontchartrain Boulevard. The traffic shift will last through the fall of 2018, when the project is scheduled to be completed.

Mayor Cantrell, City Officials Provide Update On Subtropical Storm Alberto

NEW ORLEANS — Today, Mayor LaToya Cantrell and City officials provided an update on Subtropical Storm Alberto.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Subtropical Storm Alberto is tracking farther east. The National Weather Service has cancelled the Tropical Storm Watch, Storm Surge Watch, and Flash Flood Watch for Orleans Parish. While the continued eastward shift of Alberto is promising, the City continues to monitor for potential impacts to New Orleans. Residents are encouraged to stay connected and prepared. Rainfall from this system is now expected to produce less than an inch of rain in New Orleans with locally higher amounts possible.

MAYOR LATOYA CANTRELL NAMES JADE BROWN-RUSSELL AS ACTING DIRECTOR OF SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD

MAYOR CANTRELL AND STATE, LOCAL PUBLIC SAFETY LEADERS DISCUSS HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

NEW ORLEANS —  Two weeks before the start of hurricane season, Mayor LaToya Cantrell, joined by members of the Louisiana National Guard and local public safety leaders, discussed hurricane preparedness.  The meeting took place at Jackson Barracks.  Immediately following the meeting, a press conference was held. Mayor Cantrell stated her confidence in local, state, and federal partners working together. She also urged citizens to have their own hurricane plan in place.  "Evacuation is the best rescue," she said. The mayor was joined by Collin Arnold, Director of New Orleans Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP), Superintendent Michael Harrison of the New Orleans Police Department, Superintendent Tim McConnell of the New Orleans Fire Department and New Orleans EMS Director Dr. Emily Nichols among others.
