**UPDATE** ADDENDUM TO CONSTRUCTION AND UTILITY WORK MORATORIUM IN CLEAN ZONE

The City of New Orleans has announced a moratorium on construction and utility work within the Central Business District and the French Quarter, effective Dec. 1, through Mar. 5, 2025 after Mardi Gras. This moratorium specifically affects construction impacting the public right-of-way and utility infrastructure, as outlined in the attached map. Interior renovations and other work not impeding the right-of-way are exempt.

Key Details:

  • Deadline for New Applications: Applications for new construction in the affected areas must be submitted by November 12, 2024.
  • Ongoing and Previously Permitted Projects: Contractors with ongoing or previously approved projects within the Central Business District and the French Quarter are encouraged to complete work by November 30 or pause operations until after Mardi Gras. The moratorium does not require an absolute stop by November 30; however, the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the City must review and approve a demobilization and site security plan for critical periods leading up to and through the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras 2025. Contractors with scopes that may impede right-of-way, should direct demobilization inquiries to DPW/Roadwork NOLA for guidance on requirements.
  • Restrictions: Scaffolding and construction dumpsters will not be permitted in the public right-of-way within the Central Business District and French Quarter during this time.

This moratorium is vital to ensure minimal disruptions during the holidays, Super Bowl, and Mardi Gras, helping to keep streets and sidewalks clear for residents and visitors.
