City of New Orleans to Activate Additional School Zone Flashers on Monday, Oct. 28

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) will activate school zone flashers at several additional locations starting Monday, Oct. 28. This phased activation is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with State law and enhance safety for students and drivers.

The DPW Sign Shop and Traffic Teams have been working diligently to bring school zones into compliance with Act No. 103, which mandates that school zone cameras operate only during specific times: one hour before and one hour after the beginning of the school day, and one hour before and one hour after the end of the school day. The City continues to reprogram flashing beacons and update signage at school zones across the city.

The following school zone flashers will be activated as part of this phase:

  • Westbound Opelousas Ave. at Olivier St.

  • Southbound Read Blvd. at Hammond St. (4800 Block)

  • Northbound Read Blvd. at Hammond St. (4800 Block)

  • Northbound Canal Blvd. at French St. (6200 Block)

  • Westbound 4200 Magazine St.

  • Southbound 1000 Napoleon Ave.

  • Westbound 9800 Hammond St.

  • Eastbound 1400 Camp St.

Motorists are reminded to exercise caution and adhere to posted speed limits in these zones during the designated times. Speeding violations in school zones will result in citations. School zone safety continues to be a top priority for the City.

Residents can stay informed about active school zones, camera operations, and school zone hours by visiting nola.gov/get-school-zone-times. Any school zone citations issued outside of the legal hours will be dismissed. Residents with questions about tickets are encouraged to contact the Parking Adjudication Office at parkingadjudication@nola.gov for assistance.

DPW will continue to provide public updates as more school zone flashers are activated.
