TRAFFIC ADVISORY: TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURES ON MOSS STREET & ORLEANS AVENUE

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) announces that effective immediately, intermittent lane closures are in place on Moss Street from N. Carrollton Avenue to Conti Street to allow crews to patch roadway and improve drivability. This work is expected to last approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

Following completion of work on Moss Street, construction crews will shift to Orleans Avenue’s river-bound lanes, from City Park Avenue to N. Carrollton Avenue, for an additional three weeks, weather dependent.

Work zones:

  • 500 – 1400 Moss Street, Lake-side of Bayou Saint John (N. Carrollton Avenue to Conti Street)
  • 4100 – 4700 Orleans Avenue, River-bound (City Park Avenue to N. Carrollton Avenue)

These temporary lane closures will allow DPW contractor Barriere Construction Co. LLC to perform roadway improvements as part of the DPW772: Right of Way Improvement Project. Local access will be maintained in both directions, on both Moss Street and Orleans Avenue, with one lane remaining open for one-way traffic. “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance to notify residents and businesses.

During active patching, milling, and overlay paving, access will be limited to local traffic only, including deliveries and emergency vehicles as needed. Traffic control measures — including signage, cones, and fencing — will be in place to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during the closure. Parking will be prohibited on blocks where crews are actively working.

This work is part of the DPW772: Right of Way Improvement Project, which includes right of way improvements, ADA-compliant ramp installation, paving, and sidewalk repairs at various locations throughout the city. Barriere Construction Co. LLC is leading construction activities, which generally take place Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed.
