NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell, the City of New Orleans Capital Projects Administration, and the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) today celebrated the completion of comprehensive renovations to Engine 7 located at 1441 St. Peter St. This $1.3 million investment in upgrading critical public safety infrastructure was funded using Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) dollars and City bonds.

"Engine 7’s restoration is proof that when we invest in our people, our City gets stronger," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. "After Katrina and Ida, we didn’t just rebuild — we built better. Our firefighters deserve facilities that match their service, and today, this station stands ready for the work ahead.”
NOFD Engine 7 sustained substantial damages due to Hurricanes Katrina and Ida, requiring extensive work to restore operational integrity and bring all systems up to current code. The completed project included a wide range of improvements designed to support the long-term efficiency, safety, and resilience of the facility.
Renovation elements included:
- Modernization of electrical systems
- Generator repairs and performance upgrades
- Mechanical system repairs and replacements
- Installation of a new fire alarm system
- Interior improvements
“The renovation of Engine 7 is another example of infrastructure projects created and completed under this administration that will fortify the New Orleans Fire Department’s ability to serve this city for decades to come," said Chief Roman Nelson, NOFD Superintendent.
These enhancements provide NOFD personnel with a safer, more efficient workplace and ensure that Engine 7 is properly equipped to support emergency response operations for years to come. The restored facility strengthens the department’s overall capacity to respond quickly and effectively to incidents throughout the surrounding neighborhoods.
Completion of this project is a testament to the City’s ongoing commitment of reinvesting in public safety facilities and ensuring that first responders have the resources and infrastructure necessary to protect residents, businesses, and visitors across New Orleans.
"This fire station renovation is a direct result of thoughtful planning and strong collaboration," said Jerry Harris, Interim Director, Capital Projects Administration. "As part of our benchmarking team projects, this work reflects our commitment to modernizing critical infrastructure, so our firefighters have safe, reliable, and functional facilities to serve our community. This $1.3 million project, funded through City and FEMA dollars, would not have been possible without the dedication of everyone involved. I want to thank all of our partners, contractors, and City teams who worked together to make this project a success.”
Since the start of the Cantrell Administration, the City of New Orleans has invested $64 million for capital improvements in City Council District C, including the following completed projects:
