TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Temporary Closure of Tchoupitoulas Street at Gaiennie, Girod, & Natchez
The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) announces that beginning Tuesday, July 8, at 7 a.m. There will be intermittent lane closures on Tchoupitoulas Street at the intersections of Natchez Street, Gaiennie Street, and Girod Street to allow DPW contractor, Barriere Construction Co. LLC, to perform Right of Way repairs, complete handicap ramp, and curb repairs as part of the DPW772: CBD Right of Way Improvement Project. Local access will be maintained.
On Tchoupitoulas Street, one lane will remain open for one-way traffic, and parking will remain available during the initial phase, which includes sidewalk, ADA ramp, and curb installation. There will be no parking impacts during this phase of the work.
Starting the following week, crews will begin patching, milling, and overlay paving at each intersection. During this time, access will be limited to local traffic only, including deliveries and emergency vehicles as needed. Traffic control measures — including signage, cones, fencing, and flaggers — will be in place to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
Traffic will be flagged through the area during patching operations to allow safe passage. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. Parking will be prohibited on blocks where crews are actively working. “No parking” signs will be posted in advance to notify residents and businesses.
This work is part of the DPW772: CBD Right of Way Improvement Project, which includes right of way improvements, handicap ramp installation, paving, and sidewalk repairs at various locations throughout the city. Barriere Construction Co. LLC is leading construction activities, which generally take place Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed.
