CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ISSUES STATEMENT ON ORLEANS PARISH COMMUNITY RATING SYSTEM

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today issued the following statement related to the Orleans Parish Community Rating System Score (CRS):

In 2021, The City of New Orleans improved its CRS score to a Class 7, which provided 15% flood insurance premium savings for property owners.

In 2023, after the most recent CRS cycle visit, the City achieved enough credits to become a Class 6, which provides 20% savings.

The City of New Orleans Department of Safety and Permits Floodplain Management Division is working to further improve the CRS score, which includes re-evaluating the City's program from top to bottom to obtain more credit. However, the final step requires a sufficient score from the Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule process (BCEGS), which is used as an insurance underwriting and information tool.

The goal is to become a Class 6 as soon as possible to increase the discount Orleans Parish property owners receive on their flood insurance premiums.
