NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission proudly announces this week’s Athlete of the Week, continuing its celebration of exceptional youth athletes competing in NORD youth and local middle school leagues.
Week 8 Athlete of the Week: Kindle “Deuce” Strong
This week’s Athlete of the Week is Kindle “Deuce” Strong, a 13-year-old running back at KIPP Leadership Academy. In his latest game against KIPP East, Kindle delivered a dominant performance, rushing for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns.
Off the field, Kindle’s leadership and commitment shine just as bright. He maintains a 3.8 GPA, serves as a Student Ambassador, and has earned the titles of Mr. 6th, Mr. 7th, and Mr. 8th Grade. Kindle is also the Captain of the Drumline, a Leader of the Month, and was recognized as the school’s first “Big Shot of the Week.” Beyond school, he volunteers with Second Harvest Food Bank, giving back to his community.
His favorite athlete is Saquon Barkley, whose drive and versatility inspire him to lead by example both on and off the field.
Coaches and NORD officials select one standout youth athlete to be featured as part of the Athlete of the Week program, with honorees highlighted on WGNO’s Friday Night Football at 11 pm.
