*UPDATED** Temporary Roadway Closure of Magazine St (Phillip St to First St)
NEW ORLEANS — Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works’ contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC., will temporarily close the 2300 Magazine St. approximately one month to accommodate utilities and roadway construction as part of the Iberville, Tulane-Gravier, LGD, CBD Group A construction project. Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures such as signage and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.
During this month-long closure, traffic will be rerouted (uptown) north and south bound on Jackson Ave to St Charles Ave and Tchoupitoulas St and (downtown) North and south bound on Louisiana Ave. Residents and businesses in this area have been notified of the closure via a next door and notifications.
The $21.8 Million Iberville, Tulane-Gravier, LGD, CBD Group A project was designed by GreenPoint Engineering and is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC. The scope of work varies by block but includes repairing sewage, water, and drainage line; rebuilding the street entirely; and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday thru Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the Winter 2026, weather permitting.
Since May 2018 DPW has completed 228 projects with an estimated value of $1.28 Billion.44 roadwork projects currently under construction with an estimated value of $507 million.
