CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ISSUES STATEMENT

The City of New Orleans today issued the following statement:

We are pleased with Judge Zainey’s ruling in this case and consider it a significant victory for the City. The District Court made it clear, once again, that the people of New Orleans, through their local government, have the authority to decide what types of commercial activities should be permitted in their own neighborhoods. The judge completely dismissed all but one small portion of a single claim in Airbnb’s sprawling 11-count lawsuit. Notably, the Court upheld the permit verification for short-term rental platforms like Airbnb. It also declared that there is “no fundamental right to rent out residential property on a short-term basis” as some hosts who operate illegal rentals have contended.

City attorneys worked tirelessly to achieve this result, and it is a testament to what our government can accomplish when it works together on behalf of residents.
