TRAFFIC ADVISORY: TEMPORARY LANE SHIFT FOR ALLEN TOUSSIANT BOULEVARD BEGINS SEPTEMBER 15

The City of New Orleans announced that beginning Monday, September 15, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Barriere Construction Company will implement a temporary lane shift on the lakeside of Allen Toussaint Boulevard at Waldo Drive. The lane shift will last approximately two weeks to accommodate essential waterline installation at the intersection. Motorists may experience disruptions in normal traffic patterns while the intersection is undergoing active construction. However, crews will ensure access is permitted in local areas where it is safe to travel.

As a part of the RR227 St. Anthony East/West Group B and C Project, crews will install new subsurface utilities along with roadway improvement throughout the area. When complete, the project will include repaving the asphalt roadway from curb to curb, repairing damaged sidewalks, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections, and replacing damaged underground water, sewer, and drainage lines. Construction is expected to continue through Spring 2027, weather permitting.

Lanes on Allen Toussaint Boulevard will shift, but at least one lane in each direction will remain open. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through the work zone. Parking impacts are anticipated in the construction area, and “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted restrictions to help ensure a smooth and safe construction process.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Safety is our top priority. Traffic control measures and signage will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area.
