City of New Orleans to Host K20 Summit Honoring 20 Years of Resilience, Evolution, and Empowerment

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans will host the Hurricane Katrina 20th Anniversary Commemorative Summit on Saturday, August 30, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. as part of a week-long series of civic actions and public conversations organized in partnership with community and non-profit leaders. The summit will honor the City’s resilience, celebrate its progress, and set a bold course for the next two decades.

Under the banner “Resilient. Evolved. Empowered.”, the commemoration will honor the City’s journey from crisis to renewal while charting a vision for the next two decades of equitable growth. The summit will bring together leaders from government, philanthropy, business, the cultural community, and residents to:

  • Acknowledge the lives lost, trauma endured, and the collective effort that rebuilt the region
  • Celebrate innovations that have strengthened infrastructure, culture, and community voice
  • Catalyze investments and policy commitments that secure a climate-ready, opportunity-rich future for every New Orleanian

Summit Highlights 

  • Opening Session: Welcome remarks, a solemn Moment of Honor, an Artistic Tribute, and a Keynote Address
  • Mainstage Plenary #1: Climate, Water & Infrastructure — A 50‑Year Resilience Roadmap
  • Mainstage Plenary #2: Sustaining New Orleans — Funding Now & Tomorrow
  • Breakout Sessions: 12 focused sessions covering Recovery, Preparedness, Youth Investments, Healthcare, Housing, Culture, and Education
  • Closing Session: Interactive reflection followed by a musical finale
