TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Temporary Closure of Perdido Street between S. Claiborne Avenue and S. Galvez Street

The City of New Orleans announced beginning on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. through Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Barriere Construction Co., LLC will close Perdido Street between S. Galvez Street and S. Claiborne Avenue to perform mill and overlay operations.

Drivers are advised to use S. Claiborne Avenue, Gravier Street, S. Galvez Street, and Poydras Street to navigate around the closure. Please refer to the provided map for detour details.

Safety remains the City’s top priority. Signage and traffic control measures, including barrels and fencing, will be installed to guide drivers and pedestrians safely through the area.

This work is part of DPW 772: Central Business District (CBD) Right of Way Improvement Project, is being constructed by Barriere Construction Co., LLC. The project scope varies by block and includes milling, overlay, and sidewalk repairs throughout the CBD. In general, crews are working Monday through Friday, with weekend work as necessary. The project is anticipated to be completed by January 2025, weather permitting. Please be aware that construction schedules are weather-dependent, and significant delays due to weather may impact the timeline.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 219 projects with an estimated value of $1.16 billion. Today, 35 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $521 million.
