Traffic Advisory: Burgundy Street Closure for Waterline Tie-In
The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) announces the temporary closure of Burgundy Street between Iberville Street and Canal Street on Thursday, Dec. 26, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. During this time, traffic on Canal Street will not be able to turn right onto Burgundy Street. This closure is necessary to complete a waterline tie-in as part of the DPW704 Collapse Site Rehabilitation Project.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during this time, although local access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the immediate area. Public safety is our top priority. Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.
Following the completion of the waterline tie-in, the remaining work on Burgundy Street will include street restoration and sidewalk repairs. The project includes work on North Rampart Street, Iberville Street, Burgundy Street, and Canal Street.
The Collapse Site Rehabilitation Project, managed by the Department of Public Works is scheduled to continue through early 2025, weather permitting. This project, contracted to Hard Rock Construction Co., LLC, involves replacing and rehabilitating existing water, sewer, and drainage lines, repaving roadways, replacing sidewalks, and installing ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
