Eastbound Morrison Road Closure for Improvement Project Begins February 16
The City of New Orleans announced today that the Department of Public Works (DPW), in coordination with contractor RNGD, will close eastbound Morrison Road between Mayo Boulevard and Bundy Road beginning February 16, 2026, as construction begins on the DPW574 Morrison Road Improvement Project.
This $23.6 million project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and the City of New Orleans Bond Program and will include roadway, bridge, street, and sidewalk improvements to enhance safety, accessibility, and travel options for people walking, biking, and driving.
Beginning February 16, 2026, eastbound through traffic on Morrison Road will be detoured between Mayo Boulevard and Bundy Road to the I-10 Service Road. Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers. During this phase of construction, the eastbound Lawrence Canal Bridge, the eastbound Benson Canal Bridge, the intersection of Morrison Road at Lake Willow Drive/Primrose Drive, and the intersection of Morrison Road at Benson Court/Benson Street will be closed for construction.
This initial phase is expected to last approximately one month. Following this phase, additional impacts to Morrison Road will occur throughout the duration of the DPW574 Morrison Road Improvement Project.
Residents and businesses along the south side of Morrison Road will be permitted to use the eastbound lanes in both directions for limited local access, with the exception of Crowder Boulevard to Benson Court, which will continue to operate one way in the eastbound direction. All eastbound traffic between Crowder Boulevard and Benson Court will be routed back to Crowder Boulevard utilizing neighborhood streets. Westbound traffic on Morrison Road will not be detoured at this time.
Construction is expected to continue through July 2027. The city will provide updates on any changes to traffic patterns as construction progresses. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the city works to mitigate construction impacts.
