January 8, 2026 | From City of New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, the City of New Orleans Department of Park & Parkways will temporarily close the interior lane, north and south bound of the 1900 - 4000 blocks of Tulane Avenue, approximately three days to accommodate the relocation of the 24 Alta Magnolia trees. Traffic control measures will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians to alternative routes.
During this relocation, one lane will be maintained for vehicular traffic. The City reminds motorists and cyclists to be vigilant in the area, ensuring the roadway is shared responsibly.
The Alta Magnolia is a compact variety specifically bred for narrow, upright growth and tight branching, making it well suited for urban corridors and constrained planting areas. The relocation ensures the trees remain part of the City’s urban canopy while addressing transportation safety requirements such as a 155-foot setback on Tulane Avenue. For more information, visit the Parks & Parkways website. To better serve residents with more timely communication, the Office of Strategic Engagement is in the process of building a distribution list to provide important infrastructure updates through text messaging. To sign up, text BUILDNOLA to 77295 or visit ready.nola.gov/alerts to create a profile and select the “roadwork” alert list.
