NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that starting Monday, July 8, 2024 at 7 a.m., the Department of Public Works construction contractor, Command Construction Industries, L.L.C, will begin tying in a 36" RCP into a box culvert located within the intersection of Franklin Avenue and N. Villere Street.

This work will require temporary lane closures in both lanes. During this time, the parking lane will be closed, and vehicle traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction. The South-bound / River-bound lane will be closed July 8 - 12, 2024, with the North-bound /Lake-bound lane closing July 15-19, 2024.

**Please note: Franklin Avenue is a truck route; trucks will be detoured at North Claiborne Avenue/North Robertson Street for River-bound traffic and Lake-bound trucking traffic will be routed through St. Claude Avenue.**

Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

The city ask residents to move all vehicles off the street before 7 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024. We ask that residents please adhere to no parking signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Friday, July 19, 2024.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.5M St. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with the City of New Orleans’ Department of Public Works and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)’s Leveraged Gray / Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2024. Click here to view the community meeting presentation and map of the project.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 196 projects with an estimated value of $904 million. Today, 55 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $790 million.
