TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Julia Street Improvement Project Begins, Requiring Lane Closures

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC began closing sections of Julia Street between Convention Center Boulevard and Loyola Avenue for street repairs on today, June 10. This work is part of the Julia Street Improvement Project. Crews are currently working on Julia Street between Convention Center Boulevard and Tchoupitoulas Street.

The project will be completed in two phases:

  1. Phase One: Crews will work in the right travel lane and right parking lane

  2. Phase Two: Crews will then work in the left travel lane and left parking lane

In both phases, work on Julia Street will start at Convention Center Boulevard and move Lakebound towards Loyola Avenue.

Efforts will be made to minimize disruption by limiting work to one travel lane in each direction at any given time. However, delays are expected, and travelers are advised to plan their routes accordingly.

The scope of work includes removing and replacing concrete panels, sidewalk and driveway apron repairs and the installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps where needed. The contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. Some weekend work may be required. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by September 2024, weather permitting.
