TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Emergency Street Closure at the Intersection of Julia and South Peters Streets

Julia Street

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that effective immediately, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC will temporarily close the intersection of Julia Street and S. Peters Street to accommodate emergency underground utility repairs. The intersection closure is expected to remain in effect through the end of the week. Signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be on-site to direct drivers and pedestrians.

During this closure, vehicular traffic traveling downriver on S. Peters Street will be rerouted onto Julia Street towards Loyola Avenue. Traffic on Julia Street will be reduced to one lane and will be able to cross through the intersection. Please see the attached map for detour.

Work on the Julia Street Improvement Project began on June 10, 2024. The scope of work includes removing and replacing concrete panels, sidewalk and driveway apron repairs and the installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps. The contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. Some weekend work may be required. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by September 2024, weather permitting.
