NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans announced that on Thursday, June 13, the Office of Stormwater & Green Infrastructure’s contractor Impetus Infrastructure, LLC closed the field portion of A.L. Davis Park to begin the first portion of work for the DPW547A-DPS01 Watershed (Broadmoor HMGP) Drainage Upgrades and Green Infrastructure Project (Phase I). A temporary lane closure began at 7 a.m. in the 2800 block of South Roman Street and will remain in effect for approximately five months.
Pipe upgrades will be made on both South Roman Street and Washington Avenue ahead of the Taylor Playground water storage portion of this project, currently planned to start in Fall 2024.
During this project, the contractor will be working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. This portion of work within Phase 1 of this watershed project is scheduled to be complete by Winter 2024, weather permitting.
The DPS 01 Watershed Drainage Upgrades and Green Infrastructure project is a two phased implementation approach to reduce flooding, particularly in the Broadmoor and Central City neighborhoods, and to implement green infrastructure features in the stormwater drainage system to reduce runoff and create and enhance public landscape and park amenities. This will be accomplished by upgrading the City’s stormwater drainage infrastructure with green storage, infiltration and filtration landscape features along with pipe and street upgrades. Storage will be added throughout the system to create a cascading effect that stores and detains runoff. The project also includes water and sewer improvements that are impacted by the stormwater improvements.
The $39.6 million DPW547A - DPS01 Watershed (Broadmoor HMGP) Drainage Upgrades and Green Infrastructure Project (Phase I) was designed by CDM Smith Inc. and is being constructed by Impetus Infrastructure, LLC. Click here to view the factsheet with more information about Phase 1 of this project.
