TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Lane Closures on Poydras Street
NEW ORLEANS — Today, the City of New Orleans announced that starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15 the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC will initiate the process of marking out Poydras Street from South Claiborne Avenue to Convention Center Boulevard for imminent repairs. Construction is scheduled to begin on May 20.
During construction, crews will be working in one lane simultaneously in each direction (river bound and lake bound), ensuring that traffic flow is maintained to the best extent possible. This will include rolling lane closures on Poydras Street. Crews will begin at South Claiborne Avenue and advance towards Convention Center Boulevard.
Efforts will be made to minimize disruption, with crews aiming to impact only one travel lane (in each direction) at any given time. However, please anticipate delays and plan travel routes accordingly.
The scope of work includes concrete panel repairs, pavement restoration, sidewalk and driveway apron repairs, installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps and restriping high-visibility crosswalks. The contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. Some weekend work may be required. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by July 2024, weather permitting.
