TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Additional Lane Closures Implemented on Poydras Street Between Lasalle Street and S. Liberty Street

NEW ORLEANS — Today, the City of New Orleans announced that effective immediately, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC will close an additional lane on the riverbound side of Poydras Street between Lasalle Street and S. Liberty Street. This closure is necessary for safety measures related to a 30-inch water leak. The street will remain closed until further notice.

We are working closely with our partners at the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) to repair the leak, after which a single-lane closure will resume.

Improvements to Poydras Street between S. Claiborne Avenue and Convention Center Boulevard began on Monday, May 20 and will continue through July 2024, weather permitting. During construction, crews are working in one lane simultaneously in each direction (riverbound and lakebound), ensuring that traffic flow is maintained as much as possible. This includes rolling lane closures on Poydras Street. Crews began work at S.Claiborne Avenue and will advance towards Convention Center Boulevard. Efforts are being made to minimize disruption; however, please anticipate delays and plan your travel routes accordingly.

The scope of work includes concrete panel repairs, pavement restoration, sidewalk and driveway apron repairs, installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps and restriping high-visibility crosswalks. The contractor will be working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. Some weekend work may be required.
