Orleans Parish Residents Can Now Apply for Residential Re-Roofing Permits, Starting Today

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans announces that Orleans Parish residents can now apply for a residential re-roofing permit through the Department of Safety and Permits, starting today. A re-roofing permit must be obtained prior to the replacement of 50 percent or more of a roof on one-and-two-family dwellings. This new permitting process resulted from the passing of Ordinance 30,235 MCS.

Following best practices and aligning with the adoption of the 2021 International Building Code, this new permit is intended to help homeowners qualify for reduced insurance premiums or meet roofing grant program requirements by providing a formal, independent record of completed roof replacements.
