Emergency Alert System for Endangered Vulnerable Individuals Credited for Reuniting Family within Minutes, Hours After Launch
NEW ORLEANS— The City of New Orleans and New Orleans Police Department are crediting the new alert system for vulnerable missing persons named Bryan’s Call for aiding in the safe return of a missing elderly woman.
On May 26th the 84-year-old vulnerable woman was reported missing by her family. NOPD officers responded immediately and detectives initiated a Silver Alert request through Louisiana State Police (LSP). While awaiting official LSP activation of the Silver Alert and recognizing the time-sensitive nature of the case, NOPD also activated Bryan’s Call through the NOLA Ready system. The woman was located within 15 minutes of the alert’s distribution.
“When a loved one with disabilities is missing every minute counts,” said Mayor Helena Moreno. “This inclusive program is the lifeline New Orleanians deserve when time is of the essence.”
“I want to thank the Moreno Administration for championing this effort since Mayor Moreno was on the City Council,” said New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. “We know firsthand how dangerous wandering off from safe locations can be for our vulnerable and disabled citizens. Having a faster response with alerts like Bryan’s Call will help save lives.”
A concerned neighbor recognized the woman approximately six blocks from her residence and contacted police. She was safely reunited with her family.
The incident served as a successful real-time test of Bryan’s Call Alert system through NOLA Ready and demonstrated how rapid coordination between patrol officers, detectives, emergency alert systems, and the community can help protect vulnerable individuals and bring loved ones home safely. The Bryan’s Call system was announced last week by the Mayor and officially launched in New Orleans at 12:01AM Monday.
