NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission proudly announces this week’s Athlete of the Week, continuing its celebration of exceptional youth athletes competing in NORD youth and m0iddle school leagues.
Week 9 Athlete of the Week: Tyreek “Reek” Lonzo
This week’s Athlete of the Week is Tyreek “Reek” Lonzo, a 14-year-old running back and defensive back for the Moton Owls. In a commanding performance against Schaumburg, Tyreek rushed nine times for 105 yards and three touchdowns, while also recording six tackles to help secure the win.
Tyreek is an 8th grader at Moton Lakefront, where he excels academically, especially in math, his favorite subject. His athletic talents extend beyond football, as he also competes in basketball and track & field, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to excellence.
Inspired by his favorite athlete, Barry Sanders, Tyreek strives to mirror Sanders’ dynamic playstyle and leadership as he continues to grow as both a player and teammate.
Coaches and NORD officials select one standout youth athlete to be featured as part of the Athlete of the Week program, with honorees highlighted on WGNO’s Friday Night Football at 11:00 p.m.
