Home » Mayor's Office » News » 2024-11-01 TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Emergency Abatement of a structure located at 1605 Esplanade
October 31, 2024 | From City of New Orleans
All traffic proceeding from Esplanade Avenue towards City Park will be diverted to turn left onto North Claiborne Avenue. The Esplanade Avenue lane coming from City Park and headed towards North Claiborne Avenue will still be operational for traveling use.
Abatement of the entire front Facade, which was threatening to collapse and fall over into Esplanade Avenue is almost complete. This process requires both hand/manual demolition, along with machinery. Currently, the demolition crew is cleaning up the debris from the sidewalk area. Once that is complete a barricade will be placed on the sidewalk and partially into the street. This will force the inbound traffic heading up Esplanade Avenue into a one lane formation.
Background:
Yesterday, a Department of Code Enforcement Inspector was conducting a routine Minimal Property Maintenance inspection when it was discovered that a wall was separating from a building. DCE promptly dispatched a demolition crew as the front facade was unstable.
Entergy was contacted to cut off electrical and gas services, and barricades were set up to protect the public.
