Insecticides Used for Mosquito Control

All insecticides used by NOMTRCB are EPA-registered products that have minimal risk to non-target species, and strictly follow legal requirements for calibration and timing of spray events.

Insecticides targeting adult mosquitoes (adulticides) play a vital role in protecting the public from both nuisance and virus-carrying mosquitoes. NOMTRCB uses adulticides as a last line of defense to break the disease cycle.  Adulticides are applied at a ultra-low volume (ULV) spray by truck and/or helicopter. For more information on adulticides you can visit the CDC website here.

Insecticides targeting the immature stages of mosquitoes (larvicides) help reduce adult populations and protect public health by preventing biting adults from emerging. Larvicides are applied to water habitats where mosquitoes lay their eggs and the larval stages develop. NOMTRCB conducts both area-wide treatments by helicopter and truck and spot treatments of water sources throughout the parish. NOMTRCB uses larvicide products that have minimal to no effect on non-target species. For more information on larvicides you can visit the CDC website here.
