The City of New Orleans Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO), in partnership with Councilmember King, Starbucks, and One Heart NOLA, invites you to join us for our Back-to-School Fair on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 3pm. This very special event will take place at the Treme Recreation Center (900 N. Villere St).
FREE Parking will be available in the lot located at Basin St. and N. Villere St. (located behind the recreation center).
Families can enjoy a day filled with community connection and celebration as we gear up for the new school year. The event will feature free laptops, backpacks, school supplies, and haircuts—all while supplies last—alongside a vibrant resource fair, live entertainment, and free food for attendees.
Please note, the child must be present to receive a backpack, laptop, and supplies.
Let’s come together to support our youth and ensure they’re ready to start the school year strong!

On Saturday, May 24th, the Mayor's Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) held the second Neighborhood Cares Initiative Community Day of 2025 at Eastshore Playground.
Over 100 volunteers spent the morning participating in park improvements and cleaning the community, collecting over 100 trash bags and cleaning 20 catch basins. City departments cut over 30 overgrown lots, filled over 75 potholes, trimmed over 20 trees and weeds to clear stop signs, removed 10 abandoned vehicles, 1 horse trailer and cleared over 6 dumping sites throughout the neighborhood.
At the community resource fair, 13 city agencies and nonprofits engaged residents and provided them with useful information. Free food, BBQ, snowballs, a game truck, and music were enjoyed by residents. Guests also enjoyed a live musical performance that added to the festive and uplifting atmosphere. Additionally, Manning Family Children's gave free child immunizations, CRC We Care! We Share! provided over 500 boxes of fresh produce, dry goods and household products, and Giving Hope NOLA gave away over 100 bags of free groceries.

On Saturday, March 22nd, the Mayor's Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) held the first Neighborhood Cares Initiative Community Day of 2025 in Gert Town.
Over 75 volunteers spent the morning participating in park improvements and cleaning the community, collecting over 50 trash bags, and cleaning 20 catch basins. City departments cut over 17 overgrown lots, filled 98 potholes, removed 15 abandoned vehicles and cleared dumping sites throughout the neighborhood.
At the community resource fair, 18 city agencies and nonprofits engaged residents and provided them with useful information. Free food, free snowballs, a game truck and music were enjoyed by residents. Additionally, Walgreens gave free flu vaccinations, and Giving Hope NOLA gave away 100 bags of free groceries.
The City of New Orleans Neighborhood Engagement Office was proud to partner with Mayor LaToya Cantrell, District B Councilmember Lesli Harris, Xavier University, Nice Guys Nola, Domino's Pizza, Giving Hope NOLA, Lamar Advertising, Walgreens and Starbucks. Love Your City: Citywide Cleanup
On Saturday, February 1st and Sunday, February 2nd, the Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office along with the Department of Public Works held a two-day Love Your City: Citywide Cleanup event. The cleanup focused on the main corridors in all five council districts (Hollygrove, Central City, Treme, Algiers, 7th Ward and Rosedale). Over 200 volunteers gathered across all 5 council districts to participate in the Love Your City: Citywide cleanup. Together, volunteers gathered over 215 bags of trash, 66 bulk items, and cleaned nearly 40 cach basins throughout the city!
A special thank you goes out to: Mayor LaToya Cantrell who participated in the District A cleanup, The students from Xavier University and International High School, who showed incredible enthusiasm and commitment by attending in large numbers, Councilman Eugene J. Green & Councilman Oliver Thomas, Chuck Morse (Executive Director of Thrive NOLA) and his dedicated staff, members of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., and Familias Unidas en Acción (Families United in Action), and all of the neighborhood associations who participated in this effort, your support made this effort possible, and we are grateful for your dedication to a cleaner, greener community!

2024 Toy Drive Giveaway
On Tuesday, December 17th, the Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) held its third annual Neighborhood Cares Holiday Toy Giveaway at the Milne Rec Center, a community initiative to help Orleans Parish families prepare for the Christmas holiday.
At the event, over 1,000 toys were given to kids ages 4-12 and 300 books. This event is NEO’s sixth installment of its “Neighborhood Cares Initiative” this year.
NEO was proud to partner with Mayor LaToya Cantrell, District D Councilmember Eugene Green, Dream Builders Foundation, Starbucks, National Pan Hellenic Council of Greater New Orleans, Lamar Advertising and New Orleans Saints' star Rashid Shaheed to make this event a HUGE SUCCESS!!!!! Special thanks to NOPD and our volunteers.

2024 Turkey Giveaway
On Monday, November 25th, the Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) held the fourth annual Neighborhood Cares Holiday Turkey Giveaway at the Central City Senior Center, a community initiative to help Orleans Parish families prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday.
NEO was proud to partner with Mayor LaToya Cantrell, Second Harvest, District B Councilmember Lesli Harris, UnitedHealthcare, Peoples Health and Lamar Advertising to give away turkeys and fixings to over 1,000 families! Special thanks to NOPD and our volunteers.
