Senior Citizen Engagement

The Senior Citizen Engagement (SCE) initiative is a program that connects aging adults (62 or older) to resources, encourages community engagement, facilitates social participation, and brings awareness to issues aging adults face daily. NEO partners with local senior centers, nonprofits, and City agencies to provide outreach, resources, engagement opportunities and in-person events. These events include roundtables, giveaways, and resource fairs and are held during the early hours of the weekday.

The SCE initiative is dedicated to enhancing the well-being, safety, and community involvement of seniors across our city. Through engaging programs and events such as Senior Public Safety Day, Coffee & Conversation, the Seniors 60s Health Fair and Line Dance Party, and the Centenarian Recognition Program, we provide opportunities for seniors to connect, learn, and thrive. Our initiative fosters meaningful engagement by offering educational workshops, resource fairs, social gatherings, and activities that promote active living and community resilience. Join us as we celebrate and support our senior community!

60's Line Dancing Party

On Thursday, October 17th, the Mayor's Neighborhood Engagement Office hosted a vibrant 60s Line Dance Party and Health Fair at Joe W. Brown Park in New Orleans East. With over 125 enthusiastic seniors in attendance, the event was a perfect blend of fun and health awareness. The atmosphere was electric as attendees got into the groove with classic line dances, bringing back the spirit of the 60s.

Health Fair Highlights

In addition to the dancing, the event featured a health fair NEO partnered with Walgreens, Touro LCMC Health, Aetna, and the New Orleans Health Department. Seniors had access to valuable health resources, including free flu vaccines and blood pressure screenings. We’re proud to share that 30 seniors rolled up their sleeves for vaccinations, and over 45 took advantage of the free blood pressure screenings, important steps toward maintaining their health.

This event wasn’t just about staying active; it was also about building community ties and ensuring that our seniors have access to crucial health information. By creating a fun and engaging environment, we hope to encourage our seniors to prioritize their well-being while enjoying the company of friends.

A big thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible. Your support is invaluable in enhancing the lives of our senior citizens.
