Members and Beneficiaries of the City of New Orleans Employees’ Retirement System, The anxiety and stress related to the COVID 19 global crisis has been significant. Despite this period of uncertainty, the staff, management and Trustees of the Retirement System want to assure you that the Retirement System is secure. From an investment standpoint, we want to emphasize that the Retirement System is a long-term investor. While the investment market losses have been significant over a short period of time, the Retirement System has lived through and recovered from similar periods of market stress since its inception. Further, the Retirement System’s assets are invested in a diversified portfolio of public equity and fixed-income securities as well as other non-traditional asset classes, which seek to reduce total portfolio risk. As such, the Retirement System is not solely invested in the U.S. and international public equity securities, which have received the majority of media’s attention due to their recent losses.
