NEW ORLEANS, LA – At its regular meeting on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the City Council adopted several pieces of legislation, including a Motion to set the parade positions and start times for the 2026 carnival parade season, a Motion enacting mandatory unpaid furlough days for unclassified city employees beginning in February, and more.

On Monday, January 26, 2026, at 6:27 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to 2251 Baronne Street. Upon arrival, companies encountered heavy fire in a two-story dwelling, with flames coming from the rear of the building.

New Orleans, LA – This Carnival Season, Grounds Krewe is again collaborating with New Orleans & Company and the City of New Orleans’ Office of Resilience & Sustainability, alongside presenting sponsors Entergy Corporation and Dr Pepper, for RecycleDAT! - an initiative to promote a more sustainable Mardi Gras. Members of the public can expect to see recycling stations and bins along the Uptown parade route during the day for parades on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, as well as other programming throughout the city.

The Board of Zoning Adjustments hearing scheduled for Monday, January 26 has been CANCELLED due to inclement weather. All items will be deferred to the next agenda. Information about when this meeting will be rescheduled is forthcoming.
Due to inclement weather conditions, New Orleans City Hall and offices will open at 12:00 pm on Monday, January 26. The later start time is to protect the safety of the public and city personnel. This additional time will allow for tending to cold-weather plans and for greater warmth.
All employees should report to work at 12:00 pm for their regularly scheduled hours.
NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans Bureau of the Treasury 2026 property tax bills are now available. Homeowners in Orleans Parish can access their tax bills online via https://nola.gov/find-tax-bill/. Residents should receive mailed tax bills by the end of January 2026.

In accordance with Governor Landry’s Executive Order Number JML-26-010, issued on Friday, January 23, 2026, the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters, Lisa Manning Bridges, is informing voters that Early Voting for the February 7, 2026, Special Election will be suspended on Monday, January 26, 2026, at all Orleans Parish Early Voting sites.
Early Voting will resume on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. and will end on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP) along with partner agencies, is monitoring cold weather conditions expected overnight Sunday, Jan. 25, into the early morning hours on Monday, Jan. 26, and overnight Monday into the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 27. Light, scattered showers are forecasted throughout the weekend and are expected to end by Sunday evening ahead of the cold front moving through our area.
Forecasts call for overnight low temperatures in the mid-20s late Sunday into early Monday, with potential “feels like” temperatures dropping into the teens. Similar conditions are expected overnight Monday into early Tuesday.
