NEW ORLEANS — Mayor Helena Moreno today released a letter responding to Governor Jeff Landry regarding the City’s financial recovery plan, detailing the significant fiscal reforms already implemented, the difficult steps the administration is taking to navigate current cash flow challenges, and the long-term strategy to restore structural financial stability.

The letter also invites Governor Landry to join the mayor and representatives of the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office to meet and review the City’s finances together in a transparent, fact-based discussion rather than continuing to exchange public correspondence.

Mayor’s Office of Nighttime Economy & City Council partner to support hospitality businesses with summer event series Districts After Dark

NEW ORLEANS - The Mayor’s Office of Nighttime Economy and City Councilmembers encourage residents to show support for neighborhood nightlife businesses this summer and invite their recommendations for restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues they should visit on a special night out in each of the city’s five council districts. 

For five consecutive weeks, between Independence Day and Labor Day, a district City Councilmember and a local social media influencer will go on a night-crawl of three nightlife businesses across the councilmember’s district. One stop is to be chosen by the influencer, one by the Councilmember and the final stop chosen by residents via an online vote at districtsafterdark.com.

City Charts Path Forward After Withdrawing Bond Commission Request, Addresses Concerns of Potential Actions Against New Orleans

Mayor Helena Moreno released the following statement regarding the City's decision to withdraw its application from next week's State Bond Commission meeting. The application sought the Bond Commission's approval, not for state funding, but for the City to obtain a temporary loan from a private financial institution to help maintain city services while the administration continues implementing its financial recovery plan. Moreno also addresses reports and warnings that, beyond the Bond Commission matter, some state leaders may pursue separate punitive actions aimed at the City and the City's finances.

City of New Orleans Announces Municipal Complex Advisory Committee

The Moreno Administration, the New Orleans City Council, and the Orleans Parish Civil District Court Judicial Building Commission are pleased to announce the appointment of the Municipal Complex Advisory Committee.  Per Executive Order HM26-08, Mayor Moreno established the Committee of local thought leaders and experts to review and make recommendations for the development of new city hall and civil district court facilities for New Orleans.   

“Now is the time to look forward to New Orleans’ future and an opportunity to deliver a people-centric civic complex,” said Mayor Moreno. “This diverse committee of experienced leaders is focused on improving how residents experience public service, how we steward public resources responsibly, and how we position New Orleans for the next generation.  I want the public to be involved in this process, because at the end of the day, this project is truly about the people of New Orleans and how we can better serve them.”

City Launches Investment and Job Corridors to Drive Growth in New Orleans East 

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced the launch of the New Orleans East Investment and Job Corridors, a strategic economic development initiative designed to position New Orleans East as the Gulf South’s leading destination for advanced industry, investment, and job creation.  

The initiative is centered on two complementary corridors: 

• Michoud Innovation Corridor - Anchored by NASA Michoud, supporting aerospace, advanced manufacturing, research, technology and innovation.  

• Port and Logistics Corridor – Built around the future Louisiana International Terminal, advancing maritime commerce, logistics, transportation, warehousing, and supply chain industries.

City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways Awards $146,500 in Tree Planting Grants to Nine New Orleans Nonprofits

NEW ORLEANS — July 7, 2026 — The City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2026 Tree Planting Grant program, awarding a total of $146,500 to nine New Orleans nonprofit organizations that will help expand the city's urban forest through community tree planting projects.

Administered by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, the grant program supports the City's goal of planting 40,000 new trees by 2030 by funding nonprofit-led tree planting initiatives on public property throughout Orleans Parish.

City Submits Annual Audit on Time, Continuing Progress to Restore Financial Accountability

NEW ORLEANS - Mayor Helena Moreno today announced that the City of New Orleans submitted its Fiscal Year 2025 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor by the statutory deadline June 30th, 2026, marking another important milestone in the City’s efforts to restore fiscal discipline and accountability. 

The city has had an inconsistent track record of submitting its annual audits on time. In fact, before this year’s filing, only one annual audit had been submitted by the statutory deadline since 2019. The timely submission of the Fiscal Year 2025 audit marks another significant step toward making accountability and sound financial management the standard, not the exception.

The City of New Orleans Announces Grant Opportunities in Priority Industries

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Helena Moreno announced two open grant opportunities through the City of New Orleans funded by the state’s Resilient Communities Infrastructure Program, including $1million in total funding available for grants and technical assistance for commercial kitchens in New Orleans in partnership with the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) and $850,000 in total funding available for green infrastructure workforce training providers.

City Announces New Business Stabilization Fund for French Quarter Businesses Affected by Lower Decatur & St. Peter St. SWBNO Construction Project

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Helena Moreno and The City of New Orleans today announced a Business Stabilization Fund to assist businesses located along two economically vibrant corridors, Lower Decatur and St. Peter Streets, that have experienced prolonged disruption due to construction projects.

“The poor communication and even more troubling execution of this SWBNO project has caused significant harm to the businesses and residents of this area. It should never have happened. But, when we see a problem, we go to work, thinking creatively to maximize public and private resources and to lend a hand,” said Mayor Helena Moreno. “This new fund is only one of the measures we are using to fix a problem the city did not create. Moving forward, we are taking even more urgent steps to keep SWBNO and their contractors accountable; ensure the timelines are met and promises are kept; and to vastly improve communication to our residents and businesses so that this does not happen again.”
