CITY CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF $7.4 MILLION ROADWORK PROJECT IN THE LOWER NINTH WARD

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by District E Councilmember Oliver Thomas, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Infrastructure Joseph Threat and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) Interim General Superintendent Ron Spooner for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a 17-block, $7.4 million roadwork project in the Lower Ninth Ward. This project was funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is a part of the City’s Joint Infrastructure Recovery Response (JIRR) program in partnership with SWBNO.

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ADOPTS $1.4 BILLION 2023 FISCAL YEAR BUDGET

The City of New Orleans today adopted a $1.4 billion budget for the 2023 fiscal year that addresses public safety and public health, enhanced technology and equipment, quality of life, infrastructure improvements and expanded youth programming. A total of $124 million will be funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal dollars that the City received.

CANTRELL ADMINISTRATION ISSUES STATEMENT ON TODAY'S SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING

Today’s City Council actions created more division, downplayed violence and intimidation towards government employees and failed to produce a clear and objective hearing which denied the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) Administration and Board of Commissioners the right to present the facts to the public. It was an unprofessional and unfair process and an attempt by the City Council to ignore the serious concerns raised by HANO, its employees and the Board itself.
