CITY OF NEW ORLEANS TO ACTIVATE ARCTIC AIRMASS FREEZE PLAN

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today announced that the City of New Orleans will activate a citywide freeze plan in anticipation of the arctic airmass expected to bring dangerously low temperatures and strong sustained winds beginning Thursday, Dec. 22 until Monday, Dec. 26.

The City of New Orleans announced that City Hall will be closed today at 1 p.m. in anticipation of inclement weather impacting New Orleans. Other than precautions taken for safety of personnel during the height of severe weather, essential City services, such as public safety and infrastructure, are not affected by this closure.

Mayor Cantrell Joins Renewable Energy Leaders to Release Plan for New Orleans to Reach Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050

Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the City of New Orleans Office of Resilience and Sustainability today released the City’s 2022 Climate Action Plan.

The strategies and goals outlined in the plan will result in a greener and more equitable New Orleans. The plan calls for a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2035 and to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

City of New Orleans to Host Free Paper Shredding, Recycling Drop-Off Event on Saturday, December 17

The City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation today announced its paper shredding and recycling event taking place this Saturday, Dec. 17, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. Given the high demand for paper shredding events, it is recommended that residents arrive early before shredding services have been exhausted.

CITY CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF $7.4 MILLION ROADWORK PROJECT IN THE LOWER NINTH WARD

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by District E Councilmember Oliver Thomas, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Infrastructure Joseph Threat and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) Interim General Superintendent Ron Spooner for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a 17-block, $7.4 million roadwork project in the Lower Ninth Ward. This project was funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is a part of the City’s Joint Infrastructure Recovery Response (JIRR) program in partnership with SWBNO.
