Narcan Behind Every Bar

In conjunction with New Orleans Health Department and State health officials, the Office of Nighttime Economy has been working to train hospitality workers in the administration of Narcan. The goal is to have Narcan behind every bar. Stay tuned for more information about workshops & training opportunities.

Naloxone (Narcan®) is a safe medication that can save someone’s life by reversing the effects of an opioid overdose. It only works on opioids such as heroin, prescription painkillers, and fentanyl, but it is safe to use even if opioids are not present.

The New Orleans Office of Nighttime Economy provides drink test strips to bars and music venues to help detect potential drink tampering. These easy-to-use strips test for common substances like GHB and ketamine, offering patrons a proactive safety measure. While not foolproof, drink test strips are a valuable tool in creating a safer nightlife experience. If you are a business and would like to request drink test strips, reach out to nighttime@nola.gov.
