Two-Alarm Fire in the Treme Neighborhood of New Orleans

– Wednesday, October 02, 2013 at 3:50 p.m. the New Orleans Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire at 1129 N. Robertson, in the historic Treme neighborhood outside the French Quarter.  The first company arrived on the scene at 3:53 p.m., finding heavy smoke coming from rear of this large single-story, wood-framed dwelling.  A primary search of this occupied residence was conducted immediately upon arrival.  A second-alarm was struck soon after at 3:55 p.m. in an effort to protect exposures on three sides in this densely populated neighborhood.  Fourteen NOFD suppression units carrying forty-five fire personnel were used to contain the fire to the area of origin in the rear-right portion of the residence.  The owner of the property described it as a boarding house and said he wasn’t aware if any tenants were home at the time of the fire.  The New Orleans Police Department, New Orleans Emergency Medical Services and Entergy were all on the scene to assist in the mitigation of this incident.  The incident was placed under control at 4:11 p.m. and there were no injuries reported.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
