Three Alarm Fire in Abandoned Apartment Building

– Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 2:34 p.m. the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a report of a fire at 225 N. Roman Street.  The first company arrived on the scene at 2:34 p.m., finding flames protruding through the roof of this two-story, six unit abandoned apartment building.   Suppression personnel struck a 2nd alarm at 2:41 p.m. to prevent the spread of fire to the apartment building behind the burning structure and used an exterior attack as a safety precaution due to the integrity of the building.  A third alarm was struck at 3:01 p.m., bringing in extra manpower to relieve first-up crews.  There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. 

 

In all 24 units carrying 51 NOFD suppression personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 3:54 p.m.  The New Orleans Police Department, Entergy, New Orleans Emergency Medical Services and the American Red Cross all assisted with the mitigation of this incident.
