On Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 07:19 a.m. the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to 2400 Clarence Henry Truckway
Road on the First Street wharf to assist Emergency Medical Service (EMS). As a ship worker climbed down a ladder, he slipped and fell approximately 30 feet from the ship into the hull in a barge next to the ship. Firefighters preformed a technical rescue using a Stokes rescue basket and a ship’s crane to lift the injured man from the barge to waiting paramedics.
Eight NOFD units responded to this incident carrying 24 fire personnel.
EMS transported the injured worker to an area hospital.
There were no other injuries reported.
