Today, Saturday, February 15 2014, the State Fire Marshall issued a Cease and Desist order to go in affect at 6:00 pm for the Garden Oaks Apartments located at 13091 Chef Menteur Highway. There are 20 units in the apartment complex but only six units occupied, 3 units occupied by paid tenets and 3 occupied by workers.
Violations consist of no permits for work, lack of smoke detectors, open and exposed wires, water heater and other mechanical devices in operable, no proper ventilation causing carbon monoxide to build within the structure and no portable fire extinguishers.
The owner will provide housing for the tents.
