Elderly Male Found in Algiers Home

On Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 11:53 a.m.; the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a 911 call to investigate and odor of smoke at 3726 Pittari Place in Algiers.  NOFD arrived on the scene at 11:58 a.m., finding an elderly gentleman unresponsive in the hallway.   Upon investigation, the fire appears to have started from an electric heater and strangely enough was extinguished due to either a lack of oxygen or fuel.  Consequently, it was not discovered until a neighbor went to check on him in the afternoon. The victim appears to have died from smoke inhalation.  Unfortunately, this is another case of no smoke alarm being present in the home.  There were no other injuries reported and the cause of death is being investigated by the Coroner’s Office.
