On Saturday, February 21, 2015 at approximately 10:30 a.m. the New Orleans Fire Department’s (NOFD) Fireboat “Blaze” notified Fire Alarm of a capsized sailboat with two female sailors in distress. The boat and its occupants were participants in the Mardi Gras Regatta, being held today on Lake Pontchartrain, and were representing the University of Notre Dame. The two female sailors attempted to right the 14ft sailboat themselves but quickly grew tired and signaled for assistance. The three crew members of NOFD Fireboat Blaze pulled the sailors from the water and towed the boat into shore. There were no injuries reported and the fireboat went back into service at 10:58 a.m.
