Two-Car Train Derailment at Almonaster Blvd.

The New Orleans Fire Department received a call for a train derailment in New Orleans East at Almonaster Blvd at 6:13 p.m. NOFD was on scene at 6:20 p.m. Two Public Belt Railway cars, each carrying 30,000 gallons of crude oil, were found derailed. One was on its side and the other was in an upright position leaning against the other car. There was no leakage in this derailment, and there is no threat to the public at this time.

 

The train had 108 cars; cars 95 and 96 derailed. The other 106 cars were uncoupled and moved from the area. A re-railing company is en route. The cause of the derailment is under investigation. NOFD Hazmat and New Orleans Public Belt Railroad officials remain on scene at this time to monitor the situation.
