Three Alarm Fire in the 1500 Block of N. Robertson Street
On Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 3:47am the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a 911 call reporting a fire in a vacant dwelling in the 1500 block of N. Robertson Street. The first NOFD Company arrived on the scene at 3:52 am finding a fully-involved dwelling at N. Robertson Street, a vacant, single-story, wood-framed 4-plex, with fire already spreading to the unoccupied double to the immediate right; 1528-30 N. Robertson Street. A second and third alarm was called for immediately.
While in the process of fighting those fires, we received reports of another fire in the next block at 1418 Columbus Street. Crews coming into the initial call noticed the flames and were redirected to contain that fire which had exposures on either side. The causes of the fires are under investigation; but there is a good chance that the Columbus fire is an exposure of the N. Robertson fires due to the heavy wind blowing embers in the direction of that structure.
Twenty-one NOFD units, carrying sixty-two suppression and support personnel, responded to this incident and there were no injuries reported. The fire was listed as under control at 4:35 am. The New Orleans Police Department and Entergy assisted in the mitigation of this incident.
