NOFD Battles Two-Alarm Residential Fire on Orleans Ave

On Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 2:49 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a report of a residential fire in the 2300 block of Orleans Ave. Arriving on the scene at 2:53 p.m., firefighters were met with a two-story, wood-framed dwelling at, 2329 Orleans Ave., with heavy smoke and fire already exiting the front room areas of both the first and second floor. A primary search of the dwelling was quickly done, confirming that no one was home at the time of the fire. A second alarm was requested at 2:53 p.m. as firefighters conducted an interior attack, rushing to keep the fire from extending to the rear of this large square footage home.

Twenty NOFD Fire Operations apparatuses and support vehicles, staffed by fifty-eight personnel, were used to bring this fire under control at 3:17 p.m. The homeowner arrived on the scene during the mitigation of the incident and advised NOFD personnel that her cat had escaped safely through a rear window forced open by firefighters. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
