Statewide Burn Ban is Still in Effect, Please Tailgate Responsibly

As we celebrate the opening of the high school and college football season locally, the Governor’s Office and the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) would like to remind everyone that a BURN BAN is still being enforced statewide.  We are requesting that everyone adhere to the restrictions of this state-wide emergency and resist the urge to use any outdoor instrument or appliance that requires or produces an open flame. This includes Fireworks or any other form of Pyrotechnics, BBQ Grills, Propane Burners, etc.

Below are some other fire safety measures the NOFD would like all to keep in mind:

  • Embers from even small cooking fires can travel great distances and ignite dry brush nearby, so it’s not just about the condition of your immediate surroundings.

  • Cars and trucks should not be parked on dry grass, as tailpipes and other hot car parts can start a fire.

  • Dispose of cigarette butts safely, extinguish them before throwing them away.

  • If towing, ensure that safety chains are properly secured and will not drag along, creating sparks that can ignite deadly fires.

  • If using a generator, do not place it on dry grass. When refueling, allow the generator to be powered down and cool off for 20 minutes before adding fuel.

Thank you again for your help.
