NOFD Responds to Two-Alarm Fire at Tulane Ave Hotel

On Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 6:57 p.m., the Orleans Parish Communications District (OPCD) received a 911 call reporting a building fire in the 3900 block of Tulane Ave. The first New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) firefighters arrived on the scene of the New Orleans Midtown Hotel, a three-story, 102 room hotel, at 6:57 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters were informed by hotel personnel that the hotel was only around 20 percent occupied and all guests had been evacuated prior to NOFD arrival. It was determined that the fire had begun in or around an unoccupied room on the first floor. The fire quickly extended to other first floor rooms through the hotel’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. A second alarm was requested at 7:04 p.m. as firefighters worked through dense smoke to prevent the fire from spreading to the second and third floors. Seventeen NOFD apparatus and support vehicles, supported by forty-five Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 8:03 p.m. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
