November 8, 2023 | From New Orleans Fire Department
On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 2:57 a.m., a 911 call was received reporting a residential fire near the intersection of 36th St. and Avenue B in Lakeview. New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) personnel arrived on the scene at 3:04 a.m. and confirmed a working residential fire in a two-story duplex at 6614-16 Avenue B. Firefighters were notified that all occupants had safely escaped both sides of the duplex prior to NOFD arrival. A second alarm was requested at 3:14 a.m., due to the size of the dwelling, the proximity of occupied dwellings and the number residents involved (10 total). It was determined that the fire began in an upstairs bedroom of 6614 Avenue B. Although the fire did extend into the structure’s attic, firefighters were still able to keep the fire mostly contained to the side of origin.
Seventeen NOFD units supported by forty-six NOFD Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 3:42 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The American Red Cross has been requested to the scene to assist those displaced by this incident.
