July 5, 2024 | From New Orleans Fire Department
On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 12:40 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to a report of residential fire at the intersection of Allen Street and Hope Street. The Fire Company arrived at 12:46 am to find a one-story wood framed abandoned dwelling involved in fire, spreading to exposures and immediately struck a second alarm. Firefighters brought this fire under control at 1:22 am and requested a fire investigator. The NOFD Investigator noticed illegal electrical drop boxes which were confirmed by Entergy Electric throughout the block. Witnesses identified an individual who’d run the illegal electrical lines to the home. This individual admitted to staying in the home and was arrested by Fire Investigators on the scene. American Red Cross (ARC) assisted two individuals that were displaced due to damage done to their home from the original fire. The NOFD asks to please inform Fire Prevention, New Orleans Police Department or Entergy Electric of illegal utility theft to prevent similar fires. 911 Call Received: 12:40 a.m. 1st Alarm: 12:40 a.m. On Scene: 12:46 a.m. 2nd Alarm: 12:48 a.m. Under Control: 01:22a.m. NOFD Personnel: 47 NOFD Units: 17 Cause: Illegal Electrical Connection Injuries: None Reported
