Family of Three Displaced by Two-Alarm Fire

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 8:57 pm, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to a 911 call reporting a residential fire at 607 N. Salcedo Street. Dispatched at 8:58 pm, the first NOFD unit arrived at 9:02 pm to find a garage which was located below an apartment heavily involved in flames and spreading the apartment above and extending to the home next door and immediately struck a second alarm. The family of three that resided in the home were outside when the fire companies arrived. Firefighters were able to make an aggressive attack, contained the fire mostly to the garage area and were able to bring this fire under control at 9:41 pm. The residents stated that they were upstairs preparing to eat, they heard a boom and went downstairs to investigate the noise, noticed the fire, and evacuated his family.
Eighteen NOFD units carrying forty-five Operations personnel were dispatched to this incident. The American Red Cross has been notified to assist the displaced family of three and there were no reported injuries. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
